2010 Southern Cross Stakes (Formerly Fredrick Clissold Stakes)

February 5th, 2010

Royal Randwick Racecourse is set to host their next feature race day on Saturday February 13 as part of the exciting Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

The Royal Sovereign Stakes Day features four fantastic group races including the $125 000 Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m), formerly called the Frederick Clissold Stakes.

One horse likely to start in this year’s Southern Cross Stakes is the Gary Portelli-trained Lighthorseman. The four-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice has claimed two of his seven career starts but is now looking to move up to the Group races despite a poor result last start at Rosehill.

The other feature races on the day will be the Group 2 Sovereign Stakes, Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and the Group 2 Breeder’s Classic so along with the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes there will be a plethora of great betting opportunities throughout the day.

Gates will open at 11:30am next Saturday at Randwick with a terrific eight-race programme occurring from 1:05pm through until 5:45pm (NSW time).

Nominations for the 2010 Southern Cross Stakes (formerly the Frederick Clissold Stakes) close on Monday February 8 at 11:00. Then acceptances have to be declared before 9:00am on Thursday February 11, followed by the announcement of the final field.
